living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - The morning light peaked through the crevices of the drawn Prussian blue curtains. The still one-bedroom apartment’s space rapidly became evaporated with subtle luminosity. Ezekiel awoke from the midst of sleep. His eyes venturing around the small apartment with weariness. Early dawn’s light had a way of abruptly waking Ezekiel from his deep slumber. It was a rarity when he slept through daybreak. However, on these long days he was becoming accustomed to his opium schedule more so than sobriety. Opium had a way of enhancing sleep’s perception. Ezekiel sat up in the small wire-framed bed as he peered down curiously upon a opium pipe beside him, tousled slightly between a quilt blanket. He frowned, a sense of frustration washing over his expression. He tossed the metal pipe against the floor, watching it skid until it hit the far wall. “damn it.” He spoke in a dry, unappeased tone of voice.
On this particular morning, Ezekiel had no drive to snap out of his dawdling nature. His muscles, body, and mind felt the opiate that ran through his blood from the night before. However, he rose knowing the duties he had to fulfill. Lewton would come by. Fortunately, his brother had ties to outlaws that wanted a share of opium and would pay ‘good’ money. When it came to money, his little brother always had a way to help him out. Nonetheless, Lewton begun to notice Ezekiel’s compulsive usage with the drug and didn’t agree. No, Lewt wanted him to join his band of outlaws. After all, it was Ezekiel who had taught Lewton at a young age to use a gun. Which eventually Lewton gunmanship skills surpassed far beyond his own. Ezekiel didn’t have it in him to join the careless lifestyle as a outlaw. He didn’t enjoy the thrill like they did.
Ezekiel attended to his morning routine. Cleaning up from the water in the porcelain wash basin, changing into a fresh pair of clothes, and organizing the small apartment. As uneventful as it was it seemed to awake him from his drowsiness. Unlike most complex individuals in the town of Del Fuego he enjoyed the simplicity of his daily routines. As he drew each curtain he looked out into the main street. For moments, he watched people wander about aimlessly.
Ezekiel was slowly delving into a world of unknown loneliness. He hadn’t ever paid attention to it. He hadn’t ever really minded the fact of being alone. He was twenty-eight and hadn’t committed himself to the original life of a family man. He knew he couldn’t live alone forever. However, it was this drug that shielded from it all. It only contributed to the loneliness that ached within him.
Often he thought of Belle. He hadn’t seen the woman in what had seemed a long time. Like every traveler he saw passing through Del Fuego, he had figured she was elsewhere. He knew she was a traveler of sorts, and like many he had ran into through the years, could easily never see her again. Ezekiel looked aimlessly out of the blurry view of the window. Watching solemnly.

( TAGGED ) EZEKIEL ( STATUS )COMPLETE Belle smoothed out the creases in her skirt as she walked quickly across the dirt streets of Del Fuego. She felt like an utter mess this morning. She couldn't get her clothes straight. She couldn't get her mind straight. Ever since that night with Lewt she was all mixed up, her thoughts were cloudy. was being a fool. She had been so impulsive with Lewt. She wasn't quite sure how smart that was of her, especially considering she had just been with Ezekiel not long ago. She hadn't discussed anything about exclusivity with Ezekiel...but then again, that wasn't really the point. Lewt was his brother. She wasn't a one man kind of girl. Her lifestyle didn't allow her such luxuries. But wasn't she being cruel by not letting Ezekiel know that from the beginning?
Perhaps she was. Perhaps that was why she was walking to his home right then. She had been with Lewt too long to even really remember what Ezekiel was really like, or how she really felt around him. She needed to see him again. She owed him that much at least. She briefly wondered if Ezekiel had met any women in these past few days (or weeks? She'd lost track of time) that drew his attention, got a distraction from thoughts of her. She felt a little guilty at that thought, simply because she had a feeling Ezekiel was too much of a gentleman to even consider doing anything with a woman he didn't connect with. He was kind and respectful. Belle wasn't really too much of the latter. Her life on the road had jaded her a little bit. She'd grown up knowing loose morals; that's all she really had.
She kicked dust up as she stopped in her tracks and finally laid eyes on the residencies. She took in a deep breath. She had been in and out of Del Fuego for a while, so often that she had lost track of time. She didn't know if Ezekiel was questioning why he hadn't seen her since that day. She would be wondering the same thing in his shoes...if she hadn't almost slept with his brother. She was never going to share that bit of information with Ezekiel. Not if her life depended on it. She straightened up and stepped through the front gate. She had figured out where he lived through a couple of people in town, people who probably should learn to keep their mouths shut but who would open them for the right amount of coin. She stepped up to Ezekiel's door and knocked gently. She wasn't ready for the door to open when it did. She smiled feebly, "Hello, Ezekiel."
hope this works! |

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - She looked more beautiful than he had remembered. His memories seemed to have clouded his perspective of her picturesque features from not long ago. He observed her, his glossed over eyes watching her blankly. Her fair, faultless complexion glowered subtly in the doorway of the bright room. It seemed before her eyes Belle’s rich brunette hair came to life as the light caressed her lucid features. Belle seemed even more compelling in the daylight. Perhaps, it had been at night he had not noticed how immaculate she looked. Instinctively, he drew himself glower to her rosy hued taut lips before stopping himself. It was the opium that caused him to act without rationality. This he knew all too well. “Belle.” He spoke, surprised. He paused uncertainly as he continued to stare. “Dam- ah, pardon me. I ‘pose I’m not used to company. Please come in. It certainly isn’t much of a home, but it’s livable.”
He placed his hand on her shoulder and gently led her in, closing the door behind him. Undoubtedly surprised, Ezekiel snapped out of his half-drugged, half-shocked phase. From the far corner of the room her drew a aged sandalwood chair to Belle. “Please, sit.” He urged as he eagerly brought a chair for himself right in front of hers. He sat, uncertainly. Watching her with a sense of curiosity beaming within his eyes.
“How have you been, darling? It’s been awhile. I didn’t think-” He cut himself short and looked away. Perhaps, he was speaking too much at one time. They had only seen each other once before. He knew it wasn’t as if they were unquestionably a couple. Ezekiel knew better than to assume things like such. He exhaled a deep breath before looking back at her and smiling.
“Forgive me, I am surprised to see you. You look lovely, exquisite really. I’d reckon I’d ask, how’d you find my apartment?” He watched Belle. In a sense he was fascinated by her very presence. She had been unlike any woman he’d ever met. Highly intellectual, independent, strong-natured, and unfathomably beautiful. She struck him as a unique individual.
“Would you like something to drink? I have bourbon, tequila, whiskey too. I don’ much prefer alcohol, but my little brother seems to keep on bringin’ it.” He motioned to the small china cupboard with the selection of alcohol.

( TAGGED ) EZEKIEL ( STATUS ) COMPLETE Belle couldn't recall him being this handsome the last they spoke. It seemed he had grown even more alluring in the days that passed. Just seeing him again was filling her with all sort of emotions. She smelled that scent again, the clay, that told her of his past with the Indians. Strange, she didn't get it this strong around Lewt. Then again, both of them had been rather intoxicated; it would have been hard to focus on anything other than each other. But somehow the smell of clay was slightly intoxicating when in the presence of Ezekiel. That had to do with her feelings for him. She couldn't ignore that. But the aroma of clay wasn't the only thing she noticed in that moment. Ezekiel's father was nowhere to be seen this time. Perhaps he was spending today watching over his younger son.
The most potent of influences was that heavy, lazy, relaxed air she'd felt a little of before. It was the opium. He must have had quite a bit earlier, either the night before or early that morning. His sampling of his product didn't irk her, not one bit. She'd known worse people to do worse things. And yet, she was suddenly overcome with concern for him. It wouldn't surprise her if he was addicted, she'd seen that sort of thing before. But it wasn't the best road to travel down. It wasn't her place to say or do anything about it, but heavens how she wanted to in that moment. She watched him approach her and she did not move. Her eyes drooped somewhat as he neared closer to her, closer to her lips. She almost leaned into him before he stopped. Good God she needed to get control over herself.
“Belle. Dam- ah, pardon me. I ‘pose I’m not used to company. Please come in. It certainly isn’t much of a home, but it’s livable.” She smiled and moved where he directed her, ever conscious of that hand on her shoulder. His place wasn't bad, not bad at all. Perhaps her opinion was a little biased, seeing as her home was mostly dirt ground, a tent (if she was lucky), and the stars in the sky. She'd take any sort of shelter she could get. “Please, sit.” She placed herself gently down in the seat he pulled out for her. She folded her hands in her lap while she examined him taking a seat before her. Her smile broadened as she noted how he moved with such eagerness. It swelled her heart to see him so pleased to see her again. She hadn't had a man that pleased to speak with her, in well, ever.
Belle looked up at him through her lashes. “How have you been, darling? It’s been awhile. I didn’t think-Forgive me, I am surprised to see you. You look lovely, exquisite really. I’d reckon I’d ask, how’d you find my apartment?” Her heart seemed to stop momentarily when he interrupted himself. He didn't think he'd ever see her again. Guilt fell on her like a ton of firewood. She had been so selfish these past weeks. All thought of anyone else had been out of her mind. She was so foolish. How could she not consider what Ezekiel was thinking? Or maybe she had and she had decided that he wouldn't miss her one bit, that he would find some other lucky woman to be a gentleman to. "Thank you," she said in response to his compliment of her. "Well I just went about town asking if anyone knew where the remarkably handsome gentleman from Kansas was living. Everyone was surprisingly helpful."
How had he not found someone better than her? Surely there was some lady from the East had ventured into town since they had parted. A woman like that had to be more fit for him than a degenerate like her. “Would you like something to drink? I have bourbon, tequila, whiskey too. I don’ much prefer alcohol, but my little brother seems to keep on bringin’ it.” Her heart and stomach both leaped into her throat at the mention of his brother. Just how long would she be able to keep everything that happened between her and Lewt a secret? She never wanted to tell either brother about her relationship with the other. But, it was hard to say if she'd be able to live through them mentioning each other. She swallowed hard. She'd just have to deal with it. She wasn't going to deal with her feelings for both of them, which one she liked more, anytime soon so she'd focus on keeping herself straight in conversation. "Maybe he's trying to tell you something," she replied with a smile, a bit of a tease in her voice. "I will have whatever you like to drink. Be it alcohol or not."
She swallowed again, "How have you been?"
I'm excited for this too! |

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Ezekiel knew he craved Belle often. That night at the graveyard had left him permanently intoxicated with desire for her. Her eyes, intellect, luscious lips, the sultriness of her voice had left him looming with curiosity. Yet he discouraged himself from ever seeing her again. To him it was just the way she lived. Yet deep down in the pit of his conscious he knew that they’d see each other. Ezekiel knew he was lonely. Nearing thirty and he hadn’t ever married or had kids for that matter, it was absurd. Certainly, he didn’t live a socialite lifestyle. There hadn’t been a single excuse suitable for all these years choosing to be alone. Perhaps, it was his sporadic life that held him back from all of it.
He combed his fingers through his tawny hair, sculpting her stunning features meticulously with his eyes. He recollected her subtle honey scent from that late night days ago. As he remembered he felt the heaviness wash over him again. His eyes dropped slightly, feeling the earth below him turn into water, his stomach rolling. The waves of euphoria were only brief. He sat up straight. It was a struggle to keep his composure when the drug controlled him. He gripped the edge of the chair tightly and smiled hesitantly. He suddenly found himself wishing he hadn’t done so much. However, he suspected she knew.
He snapped out of his half-trans, half-foolish euphoria. Her sultry, warm voice seemed to awake him from his slumber. “Your very kind, Belle. I’m certainly glad you are here. Believe it or not there are some good people in Del Fuego. I found that hard to accept at first.” He nodded as he spoke, smiling. The hushed atmosphere between the two seemed oddly comfortable, he even felt at ease with their silence. He stood, casually making his way to the small alcohol cupboard. He picked the bourbon. Grabbing two glasses, he poured them both a drink.
“Forgive me once again, it’s going to be warm bourbon. I don’ much prefer alcohol, but on splendid occasions such as this I’ll make a exception.” He chuckled and finished pouring them a drink. He kept his eyes on her as he neared. Reaching out he handed her the drink. His eyes stared hungrily into hers. His urge for his lips to meet hers overcame him once again. He jerked himself forward. Stooping down just low enough for his lips to purse against hers. In that moment he felt the world around him melting.
-----------------------
Lewton McConnell threw the door open like he always did when he paid his big brother a visit. However, this time he was surprised to see his brother leaning over kissing a woman with deliberate passion. Ezekiel wasn’t much for the ‘womanizing’ scene as he was. Lewton grinned, as he always did when he saw his brother doing something unlike his nature. This time he noticed something peculiar. Ezekiel drew away from the woman’s lips looking at him with a hazed look in his eyes. Lewton’s brows furrowed as he made his way to the side of the room. Searching the woman’s familiar facade. Belle.
“What the hell?! Is this a godd’mned joke!” Lewton shouted, rage filling his serene eyes. Unlike most the women he had encounters with he was particularly fond of Belle. Jealousy overcame Lewton. It was something he hadn’t been used to in his entire life. He breathed heavily now. “What in the world are you talkin’ bout, kid?” Ezekiel said, frowning. Ezekiel looked down at Belle, then back up to Lewt. “Wait a minute...”
Before Ezekiel had said anything more, Lewton marched over to him and threw the first punch. Ezekiel’s brawny figure twisted to the side before tackling Lewton to the ground. Ezekiel and Lewton wrestled each other upon the rickety wood ground of the apartment. Ezekiel pinning Lewt, threw a punch across Lewt’s face that drew blood. “God damnit Lewt, you fucking-” Lewt pushed Ezekiel off, sprawling out to the other side of the floor. Both of the men stood staring at each other as if they were preparing for battle. “Why don’t you tell him, Belle?!” Lewton shouted. tag Belle?! words 697?! lyrics strawberry fields forever - the beatles credit a girl with kaleidoscope eyes @ caution 2.0 notes alrighty, my apologies if it gets confusing...but I decided to post Eze&Lewt with the same account.

( TAGGED ) EZEKIEL ( STATUS ) COMPLETE Belle couldn't get enough of looking upon his striking features; his strong jaw, his beautiful full lips. All of this was so overwhelming, and his handsomeness certainly wasn't helping. He was so different. Most men had a certain way of behaving around her, conduct that wasn't exactly pleasant. She had no illusions about men. She didn't imagine she'd meet a romantic prince that would sweep her off her feet. The world wasn't like that. The West wasn't known to be that pleasant or thoughtful. She had traveled all across the country and while she had met nice men who treated her with respect, she hadn't felt comfortable with any of them; she just felt out of place. It was different with Ezekiel, though. He had a way of making her at ease simply with a smile. Besides, she enjoyed speaking with him. He was more than a welcome reprieve from her father who was her only company every hour of every day.
She noticed his tight grip on the side of her seat. Her brow furrowed in concern for a brief moment. She certainly understood the addiction to opium, hell she had seen it many times before. What was even worse, though, was when those people were trying to get off the stuff. She didn't think she had ever seen anyone in such pain before. She suddenly felt like she didn't want to share Ezekiel with the opium; she wanted him all to herself. But that would mean him letting go of the drug, that meant a lot of pain. She wasn't near important enough in his life to suggest he go down that path. She'd only think about these things, just for now...until she decided what the hell she was doing with these McConnell boys. God, she didn't want to even spend a second of time on that subject.
“Your very kind, Belle. I’m certainly glad you are here. Believe it or not there are some good people in Del Fuego. I found that hard to accept at first.” She nodded, "I suppose that's true. The more time I spend here, the more I see it." She licked her lips after taking a deep breath. "I'm glad I'm here too." She smiled weakly. There was still that nagging voice in the back of her mind, prodding her to think about two of the boys. She wanted to punch that bothersome voice. “Forgive me once again, it’s going to be warm bourbon. I don’ much prefer alcohol, but on splendid occasions such as this I’ll make a exception.” She leaned forward slightly as she watched him prepare the drinks. She laughed slightly, "My company is worthy of warm bourbon? My, Ezekiel, you do know how to spoil a girl." She reached up to take the glass he offered her, but her hand didn't move any farther than gripping around the glass. Her gaze was drawn upward toward his. It was impossible not to feel the hunger that emitted from him. Her lips welcomed his with passion. Her stomach leaped into her chest. All thoughts of Lewt were extinguished from her mind.
Belle practically jumped out of her skin when the door to Ezekiel's apartment slammed open. She quickly turned to look at the intruder, as more of a reflex than anything, and her heart stopped beating beneath her chest. Her mouth practically dropped to the floor as her gaze focused on the broad, tall blonde man that was Lewt McConnell. “What the hell?! Is this a godd’mned joke!” She couldn't find the words. Her mouth was dry. Her lips couldn't even move. She felt like she had been hit in the spine, every inch of her body was paralyzed. Why was he here? Why now out of all the times in the world?! "What in the world are you talkin’ bout, kid? Wait a minute...” Her head was able to move briefly as she turned to look at Ezekiel. Did he really expect her to talk?
Before she even knew it she watched Ezekiel take a good crack to the face. And then Ezekiel was tackling Lewt before she even knew it. She sprung to her feet. Should she break them up? Could she break them up? "Stop!" She managed to yell in all the chaos. “God damnit Lewt, you fucking-" "Why don’t you tell him, Belle?!” She stepped between the two to prevent them from completely ripping each other apart. Her head was spinning. What was she going to them exactly? The truth, she supposed. But even she didn't know that truth. She put her hand to her forehead and tried to rub the answer from her mind. She raised her hands, "Alright. First, you two need to agree to not repeat what just happened." She cared about them both and she didn't want either of them hurting each other on her account.
She took in a deep breath. "I..I've been.." She sounded ridiculous. She might as well just kick this in the ass. "Ezekiel, I've been seeing Lewt. Lewt, I've been seeing Ezekiel. And I know it's unfair but..." But, she hadn't agreed to be exclusive with anyone. Why should they be angry at her? "But if either of you are going to stand here and expect me to choose the winner, you're out of luck. Okay?" Alright, so maybe she shouted that last bit. She couldn't help herself. She was all of the sudden getting angry at both of them for putting her in this position. Yes, it was her fault, but she didn't want to hear it.
I'm so sorry for the delay! |

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - Blood spilled from Ezekiel’s bottom lip. Lewton and Ezekiel had managed to force their bodies against each other with power, the two of them barely moved a inch. It was at first that Lewton heard Belle yell above their raucous movements, he ignored her. His anger swelled. He was absolutely furious and full of a blend of strong emotions. Envy, jealousy, rage, betrayal. How could his own brother not known of this? How could his own brother do this to him? Then again he knew that it was apparent Ezekiel had not known. His own older brother had rarely given into the temptation of women. This was one of the first times he’d seen his brother staring awe-struck at Belle. His heart sunk. Perhaps, he was a fool. Belle’s alert responded to Lewt in such a way he grabbed ahold of his brothers shoulders and pushed him. Ezekiel stumbled back, stopping, looking over towards Belle puzzled. All that raced through his mind as he caught a glimpse of her was that she was beautiful.
Ezekiel breathed heavily as he stared longingly over towards Belle, listening immaculately to her every word. “I’ll agree.” Ezekiel breathed, glaring dauntingly over towards his little brothers direction. Lewt nodded, scowling bitterly. Ezekiel listened and as she presumed to speak, his heart sunk. Yet, as strange as it was, he thought no differently of Belle. He still vowed his deepest respect to her. He couldn’t help it. He cared for her. Even though this was betrayal, he didn’t lose a single ounce of respect for her. She was phenomenally beautiful in his eyes.
“How could you?!” Lewt shouted, pacing back and forth. Before the either of them could respond he snatched the bottle of bourbon from the shelf on the farthest side of the room. Lewt drank in the alcohol heavily. Ezekiel watched each swig. He knew himself Lewt drank when he was distraught. Perhaps, his brother cared about this woman as well. “Lewt, Lewt, stop the drinkin’.” Ezekiel gestured towards the bottle. “Your one to talk, goddamned opium shit wors’ than this!” Lewton threw the half empty bottle of bourbon against the wall. Ezekiel watched, ashamed, as the shards of glass fell to the wooden floorboards in shards.
“I reckon we all have our own secrets to tell today.” Ezekiel’s eyes narrowed towards Belle’s. He watched her momentarily before looking down. “Good lor’, I actually...kiss-” Before Lewton could continue Ezekiel shouted. “Enough! I don’ want to hear it. We all made a big mistake here. Frankly, it’s over with.” He breathed and ran his fingers through his tawny locks. He looked back at Lewton.
“Lewt, we didn’t know. How could we’ve possibly known? It ain’t no one’s fault. Not Belles, not no one. Your my lil’ brother, we’re family.” Lewt stopped pacing and looked up unsurely at Ezekiel. His eyes seemed to frown. He hadn’t seen that look in years. Since they had escaped the Kiowa tribe. Ezekiel turned towards Belle, his eyes yearning. “Belle, I forgive you. It wasn’t your faul’. ( TAGGED ) EZEKIEL ( STATUS ) COMPLETE Belle's stomach was practically in knots as she watched the two men before her. Lewt was more than just a drunken, one night encounter. Ezekiel had the same affect on her. With him, she the problems of the world were dulled down to a mere hum. She didn't know why she expected it to be any different with the other McConnell. She had been so impulsive with Lewt, allowing herself to act on her every whim. It was so foolish of her but she couldn't deny how satisfying it had been. She wasn't a one man kind of girl. Her lifestyle didn't allow her such luxuries. But wasn't she being cruel by not letting Ezekiel know that from the beginning? Not letting Lewt know that? Ah, she couldn't handle this.
The pain was clear in Lewt's eyes. That stung her, especially knowing she was the cause of it. “How could you?!” She swallowed harshly. She kept her eyes on the floor. She couldn't bring herself to look at him. She could hear him grab the bottle of liquor off the counter, the clanking of glass against wood. She didn't like the idea of him drinking. She wanted him sober simply because she hadn't seen him that way before. He could clearly hold his whiskey, she wasn't concerned about that, but she didn't like the idea of her giving him a reason to take to the bottle. “Lewt, Lewt, stop the drinkin’.” “Your one to talk, goddamned opium shit wors’ than this!” She cringed as glass shattered on the opposite wall. Turning brother on brother wasn't what she intended, not by any means.
“I reckon we all have our own secrets to tell today.” She could see that he was speaking about the opium, about his obsession over it. Her stomach leaped slightly at the thought that he was finally sharing with her something she already had suspicions of. It also felt good that the focus wasn't entirely set on her. “Good lor’, I actually...kiss-” "You were drunk, Lewt, you probably barely knew it was me you were kissing." She snapped. It wasn't fair for him to put so much on her when she was sure he didn't know the difference between her and any other woman. “Enough! I don’ want to hear it. We all made a big mistake here. Frankly, it’s over with.” She was a little startled by Ezekiel in that moment. How was he not mad at her? She had betrayed him most, hadn't she? “Belle, I forgive you. It wasn’t your faul’. I ‘pose I understand, darling. It happens to folks all of the time. They get confused. Everything will be alright.” She didn't know what it was and she didn't know why but she suddenly felt angry. Yes, she felt angry at both of them, but specifically Ezekiel. Why wasn't he angry?
She wanted fire out of Ezekiel, she wanted to see passion in any way shape or form, whether it was in the form of anger at herself or otherwise. Passion was one of the reasons why she had been so drawn to Lewt, it pulled her in. She wanted to see that now. "damnit, Ezekiel, everything won't be alright. How do you know? Why aren't you angry?! Get mad, shout at me!" She probably looked like a crazy person back from wandering in the desert for too long, but she couldn't hold herself back.
I'm so sorry for all these delays in these replies! |

living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - In all of his conscious he did not have the decency to think of Belle in any other way. He was merely drawn to her. She revealed a predominant characteristic that he could not diminish from his mind. She fulfilled the very aspect of beauty. Belle was more than unique, she was eclectic. Ezekiel had not known another woman quite like her. He wasn’t even sure if he would ever have the opportunity to meet another even close to her eccentric nature. He watched her closely. While her luscious, rose lips drew and spoke to him. Her words were tense. As rich as she spoke they were engulfed with a sense of bitterness. How couldn’t she feel such a way? He watched her solemnly. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of betrayal. His own brother. How could she not of known? It was apparent that the two were of McConnell decent. Hell, they were nearly identical.
As she spoke Ezekiel flushed. His light brows knitted close together. She had heard his truth. It was reality know that he was a opium fiend. He could feel the unfamiliar surge of confusion drift over him. Her voice rung sharply in the thickness of the air. Lewt glared at the both of them. “Ya shouldn’t be goin’ ‘round foolin’ wit’ brothers. Eze, why ain’t ya angry at the harlot?” Ezekiel cringed himself at the sound of the burning insults. She was nothing more than confused. It had happened before, to many men. Women sometimes didn’t know what they truly wanted. Hell, he knew it was no excuse.
“Don’t you call her that, Lewt.” Ezekiel growled from under his breath. She did not deserve that. His steel blue eyes narrowed slowly upwards and met with Belles. He breathed. Even her very look made him stop right in his tracks. Even at that very irrational moment. “I like her a lot, Lewton. Ya got to understand this, kid.” Ezekiel looked back at his brother. Lewton stood still for moments, his eyes blaring. Lewton shook his head. “I ain’t no kid. I sure as hell liked her too. She fooled us.” Lewton exclaimed, his voice rough. Ezekiel stood there, feeling a mixture of emotions run heavy through his veins.
Ezekiel did not understand why Lewton like her. He was a mere womanizer. It was in his very nature to not stay steady with one woman. Ezekiel frowned and looked back at Belle. Confusion washed over his features as he stared longingly into her eyes. “I’m sorry, brother.” He said. “I am angry, Belle. I am. I do want to yell at ya. I just don’t have it in me to. Unlike most folks. I can forgive and forget all about it.” Behind him Lewton huffed. “Ya ain’t gone forgive her! Why ya doin’ this?! She ain’t right.” Lewton shook his head vigorously.

( TAGGED ) EZEKIEL ( STATUS ) COMPLETE Had Belle been stupid to pursue both McConnell boys? Absolutely. She'd been completely idiotic. Especially to think that she'd get away with it. Now she was starting to see the repercussions of being selfish in her actions. She had obviously hurt both of them. There was no good to be done with dwelling on the past. She couldn't change what she had done. Then...could she change what she was feeling? They were both passionate beings but Lewt acted more fervently on his impulses. Ezekiel was the kind of man she knew she could marry if she every wanted to (and that was a topic she had to consider seriously when it came down to it) and Lewt, well Lewt was the kind of man a girl knew she'd have a great time with.
She knew from the start that he wasn't exactly a one woman sort of guy, hell she could see his wife had learned that the hard way, but then again she wasn't a one man sort of woman; not because she liked to hop from bed to bed but because she never stayed in one place too long. All of that was becoming more apparent to her the longer she stayed with these guys. She really should stop comparing the two McConnell's together, that was doing nothing to make this situation any easier for her to be in. She noticed the brief flush cross Ezekiel's face. She stopped herself from smiling. The time wasn't appropriate for that reaction but he was awfully charming with that color on his cheeks, She liked that he had picked up on her knowledge of him. She'd even like to help him as much as she could; that is, if he still wanted her around after this whole ordeal.
“Ya shouldn’t be goin’ ‘round foolin’ wit’ brothers. Eze, why ain’t ya angry at the harlot?” His words stung her. They tore into her flesh. She didn't know if it was because of her increased sensitivity but she felt like she'd been shot in the chest. She knew Lewt was angry, but she foolishly had thought he cared more about her than to call her something like that. That was when the fury began rising within her. Talk about the damned pot calling the kettle black. "I didn't fuck ya, Lewt. You don't have the right to call me that. You on the other hand..." she said, alluding to all the damned women he had bedded in his time. Normally she didn't have such crude language, but it tended to represent itself when she was angry. She wasn't exactly a lady. She lived on the road, after all.
“Don’t you call her that, Lewt. I like her a lot, Lewton. Ya got to understand this, kid.” It felt as though her heart leaped straight out of her chest in that moment. First, the fact that he had condemned Lewt for calling her a harlot, then there was that look her gave her. She had never received that look from a man in her entire life. It nearly made her breathless. He still liked her? After everything? He was a good man; far too good for a woman like her. What on earth was he doing not being married? “I ain’t no kid. I sure as hell liked her too. She fooled us.” Maybe Lewt did really like her. Maybe she wasn't giving him enough credit. But, it wasn't like he was doing himself any favors behaving toward her the way he was. "I truly am sorry..." She didn't know what else to say to Lewt.
And then she got her surge of anger again. She wanted to see fire in Ezekiel and so she yelled at him. “I’m sorry, brother. I am angry, Belle. I am. I do want to yell at ya. I just don’t have it in me to. Unlike most folks. I can forgive and forget all about it.” Poor guy, she was really doing a number on him. Shouting at him was probably not the best way to see the passion out him that she so desperately wanted. "You certainly aren't like most folks," she said softly. She desired so badly for the sole reason that it would give her a reason to choose him and not Lewt. Lewt's passion took her breath away. That was a hard thing to ignore. “Ya ain’t gone forgive her! Why ya doin’ this?! She ain’t right.” And then he went and said things like that. She wanted to punch him in his chizled jaw. But, she wanted fire and she was getting fire from him. She stepped quickly toward Lewt, placed her hands on his chest, and gripped his shirt. It wasn't a threatening gesture, just one to really get his attention. "Listen, Lewt. I am sorry I hurt ya. I had no right to do what I done. But that doesn't give you the right to say such cutting things toward me." She looked up at him, straight in his eyes. "I thought you liked a lot of women. Not just one. Not just me."
Thanks for being understanding! |

Post by Ezekiel "Eze" McConnell on Oct 9, 2012 17:21:01 GMT -8
living is easy with eyes closed - - - - misunderstanding all you see - - - - All of their secrets were out in the open. Belles, lewtons, and his own. For the most part he did not feel angry. Not nearly as agitated as he should of been. It was as if he completely blew it off. Hell, he’d made awful mistakes before. Ezekiel wasn’t foolish. He knew that women fell for Lewton left and right. Even he knew that his brother had a significant charm with women. He had only seen the woman once before in his life and he had felt himself attached. He exhaled a deep sigh as his eyes met with hers. Her very look was piercingly beautiful. His eyes narrowed down to the dusty wooden floorboards. As her sultry voice sounded, he listen cautiously. Picking apart each word and dissecting their very meaning in his mind. Behind him he listened to Lewton’s restless movements. His heavy boots, spurs clanking against the ground as he grew impatient. When Lewt was angry he always acted out unreasonably. Ezekiel remembered numerous times when the man had done foolish things out of anger.
“I’m leavin’. I reckon ya both have lots to talk ’bout. Don’ have time for this. Ezekiel, I’ll be down at the Black’ird in case ya wan’ t’ discuss business later.” Ezekiel turned his head slightly From his Peripherals he watched his brother storm out of the small apartment. He shook his head uncertainly. The room fell silent. Between the two the knowledge of what they had to talk about was painstaking. Ezekiel exhaled another long breath. Making his way to the end of his bed he sat down very slowly. Eze’s steel blue eyes narrowed towards Belle’s direction. “Don’ mind him. You aren’t the first woman he’s fancied. Nor will you be the last.” He shook his head.
He chuckled under his breath as he watched her. His smile prominent upon his lush lips. “What did you see in us McConnell men tha’ you liked so?” His fair eyebrows rose as he looked away. “Don’t be sorry. Ain’t like we are in a committed marriage.” He shrugged his shoulders slightly.
He could sense her distress. It was apparent in her lovely eyes. As she looked at him, he shrunk. He was unused to her presence. Yet as all of this confusion hung heavy in the air, he felt comfortable in their long silence. “I’m sorry that my brother called you those horrible thin’. I certainly don’t believe them. I understand ya ain’t like that.”
