BASIC INFO;
JOHN TYLER WESLEY
WILL ~ DEPUTY US MARSHAL ~ KEVIN COSTNER
Name: JOHN TYLER WESLEY
Alias: JT… and he is also known as “Hard Tack Jack”
Age: 28
Date of Birth: Spring, March 2nd
Occupation: Deputy US Marshal and has done a lot of other jobs
APPEARANCE;
Eyes: deep dark eyes of brown
Hair: sandy brown hair
Body type: tall in stature
Height: 6’ 3”
Weight: 215 pounds
JT usually dresses in a long black coat, trousers of fine black denim material, and a white, long sleeve, silk shirt with lack tie, covered by a black vest. He often carries a dragon -headed walking cane. On his strong hips hangs twin black 45 calibers, Colt Model 1869, beautifully colored case-hardened, highly polished blu-nickel frame, with a 7 1/2" barrel; the stock is made of one piece Walnut wood handles. He rides a black stallion saddled with a silver studded Mexican saddle, his initials, JTW, engraved on the side flap.
In the scabbard is an 1860 Henry, 44/40 LC caliber with a 24 1/4" half octagonal barrel with forged steel tubular magazine, a brass elevator, frame, magazine follower, and buttplate. It has a straight grip walnut buttstock; in the bedroll is a sawed off, 12-gauge Remington double-barrel.
PERSONALITY;
John is an enigmatic, sensitive type who does not show much emotion. He isn't the "fast gun"…. But he is a man who makes up his mind and acts without hesitation. With most of his life living by the gun, John shoots instinctively... and straight… possibly more accurate than most.
John is characterized as a mystery by most people, having unknown qualities…but above all is his feeling of often being unappreciated. This is ironic, because he has proven over and over again that he can be relied upon for his loyalty and open-handed, high-quality work… even to the point of those around him often taking him for granted… even taking advantage of him.
He has a very good memory; he is good with people in small groups or one-on-one situations, and in large groups tends to become agitated and relies on his guns. He is capable of forming strong loyalties, but these are personal rather than business loyalties; John has few close friends, but is extremely loyal to the ones he does have…
He has a "If you want it done your way, do it yourself…" type attitude, and is often unwilling to toot his own horn…

HISTORY;
His father raised him to revere justice and the right to live prosperously - legally. His father and mother raised him in the small town of Herrin, Illinois, but in 1855, at the age of 13, he got involved in horse stealing; got caught, prosecuted, and jailed. His father defended him to no avail, the judge was unconvincing. John spent 3 years in the Illinois State Prison; upon his release for good behavior, in 1858, at the age of 16, preventing to shame his father no further, John headed west thru Missouri, into Kansas territory, eventually settling in the town of Lawrence, deep in Kansas flatlands.
Between 1858 and 1862, John worked irregularly as a farmhand, hired gun, and stagecoach driver. Missourians who had streamed across the border, known as "Border Ruffians" begin to prevail pro-slavery issues and instigating Kansas Territory violence against anti-slavery proponents, which gave rise to some open battles.
The lawlessness. There was a widespread perception that the law in Lawrence was crooked, twisted by, and for the benefit of the rich and anti-slavery proponents. Outlaws who claimed unjust men or bad luck in Missouri, had driven them into crime received considerable sympathy from the press. The many pro-slavery threats to body and soul produced a vigilante justice in Lawrence. Those charged with enforcing the law were not always dependable. The houses of ill-repute were considered legitimate businesses. There was no local law enforcement and the military was far too concerned with the Indians to provide protection over the towns outside Lawrence. Smaller towns acquired its own stamp of lawlessness and gun-slinging. Business houses, dance halls and saloons catered to the trade at hand.
Then War Between the States came, and John, now age 20, did his duty for the Union, though he did not join the Army. During the War, he was a civilian scout and wagon master. After the war, he continued as a scout for General Philip Sheridan and Winfield Scott Hancock as well as a guide for hunting parties. He even scouted for Custer when Custer was a mere Lieutenant at Fort Riley, Kansas.
In 1866, John, age 24, pinned on the badge for the first time as he was deputized to guard the gold shipments back east. Mid 1868, John was made a Deputy US Marshal and assigned to the El Paso District Office…
His job would take him deep into Texas…. Sitting atop a black stallion, he looks down on the town of Del Fuego.
