Jonah Aarden Arkken is a man down on his luck. A one-time humble and honest farmer and god fearing family man the bank foreclosed on his ranch and it was sold from under him. Arkken places the blame for this squarely on the shoulders of the man who purchased the ranch - one Weldon Campbell. Arkken believes that Campbell had the mayor, sheriff and bank manager at the time in his pocket and had the bank foreclose on his ranch.
Arkken may be right about the nefarious motives of Weldon Campbell but blame rests at his doorstep too. Despite his god fearing background, Arkken ran up gambling debts and used his ranch as collateral. This information Weldon Campbell in fact used to squeeze Arkken off the farm. Arkken lost his home, livelihood and the legacy he had planned to pass onto his eldest son but events forced Arkken to go back to the east coast to where his wife had family. But Arkken remained bitter and twisted about his fate and could not accept his share of the blame. His marriage and family life became strained and Arkken took to drink his sorrows away a bit too much and continued to gamble. Before long, his loyal wife had kicked him out and son had disowned his disgrace and bitter shell of a father.
Now thirteen years later, Arkken has learned that Weldon Campbell has returned to full time live in Del Fuego. Arkken’s once humble abode has been replaced by Weldon’s house and Arkken’s ranch is now the heart of Campbell’s much enhanced and extended ranch. With nothing left to him and the only goal to see that Weldon Campbell is taken down, Arkken is returning to Del Fuego with a dangerous vendetta in mind.
Can Arkken make the people of Del Fuego realise the criminal monster that lives in their midst, profiteering on the destitute, swindling the foolish and destroying the stubborn in order to line his own pockets? Or will Arkken with his personal demons haunting him, prove to be a destabilising element that will bring danger to the citizens of Del Fuego?
