Name: Beast
Gender: male
Age: 10
Date of birth: unknown
Eye colour: dark brown, nearly black
Hair colour: dark brown
Appearance:
Beast's hair is usually a wild tangled dark brown mane that had never been cut or combed all his life. His dark brown, nearly black eyes have a feral expression that fit to the animalistic look of his body. The boy was born with a normal Caucasian skin but years of unprotected exposure to the elements left the skin deeply tanned and quite tough. Even in the winter the skin gets only a bit lighter.
On a closer look you see that he has a number of scars all over his body too. Many smaller ones and a few big ones that indicate wounds that might have killed him. Most of the scars he got from his hard dangerous life and fights with other predators but some resulted from the beatings his uncle used to force him into obedience and to stand upright at the forge and anvil. On his front side Beast has a number of burns and scars from sparks and small glowing pieces of metal too because he's not given protection for the work in the smithy.
Years of very hard training and work in the smithy and a diet of raw meat left the young feral boy well built and packed with muscles many grown men would be envious of. While running and especially doing hard work in the smithy the rippling and bulging of the muscles under his tanned skin are quite a sight. There's not an ounce of fat on Beasts body.
Running bent over on his hands and feet seems to make his muscles and tendons even more pronounced on his well build body and enhances the impression of him as a very fit little animal. Fitting to his looks the constant exercise and hard work made Beast quite a bit stronger than the usual boy his age and he is in excellent health.
Beast nearly always runs on his hands and feet and he's as fast and more agile as his friend, his uncles dog. Only during his work in the smithy he stands upright but with his upper body slightly bend forward. For him it's unnatural and even somewhat painful to do it for a longer time but his training and the fear of his uncles whip forces him to keep going. He's able to walk upright but only under concentration and in a slow walking speed.
Adjusting from a very early age to this way of life his body got used to going around on all fours like it happened to many other feral children in the past. Even with no strain on them Beasts toes stay bent upward in an unusual degree and he is able to run faster on all fours than a man can do upright.
Maybe it was from devouring raw meat and gnawing it from the bones all his life that his teeth look more feral than human. His incisors are sharp and pointy and his canines look quite big for a boy his age. The boys eyes are not much better than those of a normal boy with good eyes but his sight at night is really good for a human. His nose and ears are very keen and seem nearly as good as those of a real wolf.
The balls and toes of Beasts feet and the insides of his hands and his fingers are very calloused from running on them. His nails had never been cut in his life and look more like sharp claws now. They can roughly compare with the claws of a Wolf but Beast know how to use them in a fight. Since he's in possession of his uncle he realized he's good at climbing everything that allows his 'claws' to dig into it. With his wolf family it never occurred to him as wolves don't climb trees.
As long as he remembers Beast went without cloths. Again like with other feral children his skin became very insensible against cold and hot weather. He survived the winters until now without problems and even loves to play in the snow. Knowing he lived with wolves for his first years his uncle usually keeps him outside. Only if it's very cold he considers about some protection to protect his little beast of burden.
The only thing Beast wears is a heavy spiked iron collar around his neck. It's about two inches in height and fits closely around his neck. Over three Dozen four to five inches long strong sharp spikes are evenly placed around the outside of the collar. There are about another Dozen very short blunt spikes on the inside but with the close fit around the boy's neck only a very good examination will reveal them. Beast doesn't feels the spikes on the inside anymore on normal circumstances but if someone gave a chain connected to the ring on the front of the collar a sharp tug they'd squeeze painfully into his neck. A metal tag hanging from that ring is engraved with Beasts name and his uncles sign as a smith. The collar looks just like the one his uncle's dog wears too but that's missing the spikes on the inside. Those spikes had been especially made to control and train Beast by force if needed. If asked about the cruel looking collar on the young boy his uncle points out he's in the wilderness a lot and the collars protect his two beast against the death bites from wolves, cougars and bears. He can point out the scars from fights with such predators on Beasts skin too.
Beast never learned to speak and only growls, barks and howls like a wolf or dog. After trying for a while his uncle considered him as unable to do so. For the man it was enough that Beast learned to obey simple orders given to him. Over the years Beast learned the usual commands of a trained dog and quite a number more needed to tell him what to do in the smithy. His uncle was satisfied with that success and never realized Beast is now able to catch at least the meanings of English sentences and sometime even more unless complicated or unusual words are used.
The boy still thinks of himself as a wolf or maybe partly a dog and he acts like one. He got used to humans over the years but otherwise he lives just like a half tamed wolf or dog would.
History:
Beast was less then a year old as his parents had been killed during an Indian attack on their farm. His big sister tried to carry him into the safety of some trees and undergrowth but an arrow killed the girl. As she fell Beast tumbled into a thick bush and the Indians overlooked him as they gathered his sisters body.
After a couple of hours he got hungry and cried for food. A female wolf that recently lost her pups heard the crying and investigated. She just fed well and wasn't hungry but the sight of the little creature brought the loss of her own pups back up. Beasts probably thought she was a dog as he crawled closer and she licked him first before lying on her side and offering her overflowing teats to the little boy. After Beasts greatest hunger was sated she grabbed him by the neck of his little nightshirt and carried him to the cave of her pack. She defended him against the other wolves until he was accepted. Playing with the other pups in the pack it didn't take long for Beasts only clothing to fall apart.
For about three and a half year Beast lived with the wolves before he stepped into a trap and was caught. The story of the feral boy quickly made the round and after a couple days it became obvious who he was and that there was an uncle that lived as a traveling blacksmith.
Beast fought the two legged being with all his strength and tried to escape. The locals had no intentions to deal with such a crazy dangerous feral child and informed his uncle Billy Conner. Billy was not happy to care about his hated brothers crazy brat but the boy was family and finally he gave in to the urging of the local town people who just wanted to get rid of the little feral boy. One of the deciding factors was that the local judge of peace came up with a legal document that gave Billy the right to deal with the feral child as he saw fit and declared it was no longer human but just a feral beast.
As no one remembered the child's name or date of birth and Billy just learned about it as he was informed of the find he simply named the wild boy 'Beast'. Chaining Beast by his neck behind the wagon with his traveling smithy Billy left for the wilderness. Far away from civilization Beasts training began.
The first thing Billy did was fitting Beast with his first spiked collar. Billy had no intentions to make a civilized being out of Beast. With slavery now forbidden he needed a beast of burden to help with his hard work and the document from the judge allowed him to treat Beast just like that. It took weeks of rough treatment and beatings before Beast's resistance finally broke. The boy realized he couldn't win. Either he died or worked somehow with the man and his dog that was as fierce as a wolf.
Even then it was a cruel and painful process for Beast to learn to stand on his hind legs for longer times and to learn to work the bellows and hit hot iron with a hammer.
Finally Billy was satisfied that Beast obeyed the most important commands, was even submissive to his dog 'Comanche' and was able to help with the smithy. Thanks to being well fed with raw meat, the only food he accepted and the hard often brutal training Beast already developed muscles.
Over the following years Beast was trained continuously to obey a couple more commands but especially at the smithy until he was able to produce all the rough work and Billy just did the easier but more skilled work to finish them.
All the time Billy treated Beast like a mere beast of burden and it was exactly what he saw in Beast. Working around the smithy Billy always looked after Beast and gave him short orders for every step of work Beast had to do. Beast knew better than to try something else and just did what he was asked. Everyone seeing him work got the impression of a well trained animal that was well trained for the job but unable to do something on his own. Outside the smithy Beast was just some sort of half tamed wolf and the fact he acted exactly like one just enhanced the impression Billy wanted others to have about Beast. Over the years he became friends with 'Comanche', his uncles dog. They played roughly together or fought playfully over the raw meat. Despite the friendship Billy was always the one 'Comanche' obeyed.
Inside town or villages Beast was usually free to go as he liked unless Billy had other orders for him. On the road Billy still feared Beast might run off to follow the call of the wilderness and usually he was chained to the end of the wagon.
